DEA Upholds Common Sense

We are pleased with the DEA reaffirming that botanical marijuana is a dangerous drug with a high propensity for abuse. Carla Lowe, Northern California Chair of CALM declares, "The negative impacts of the use of the drug in Colorado, Washington and other states where marijuana use has become more prevalent serve as a terrible warning that marijuana is a hazard to public health and safety."

Scott Chipman Southern California Chair of CALM urges, "With the mounting evidence of the danger of marijuana we urge voters to take the safe course and reject marijuana legalization and the institutionalizing of a "big marijuana" industry in their states."

THIS DECISION IS BASED ON WHETHER MARIJUANA, AS DETERMINED BY THE FDA, IS A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE MEDICINE AND IT’S NOT.
— CHUCK ROSEBERG, DEA CHIEF
WE’RE PLEASED TO SEE THAT THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION — USING THE EXHAUSTIVE ‘EIGHT FACTOR’ SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS REQUIRED BY LAW — UNDERSTANDS THE SCIENCE THE WAY WE AND ALMOST EVERY SINGLE MAJOR MEDICAL ASSOCIATION IN THE COUNTRY UNDERSTAND IT. BIG MARIJUANA WAS COUNTING ON PRESIDENT OBAMA TO RESCHEDULE OR EVEN DESCHEDULE MARIJUANA, IN ORDER TO CIRCUMVENT THE FDA PROCESS TO TURN A QUICK PROFIT ON UNREGULATED PRODUCTS. BUT THIS DECISION MEANS THAT MEDICATIONS BASED ON MARIJUANA WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE SAME RIGOROUS TESTING PROCESS AS ALL OF OUR OTHER MEDICATIONS.
