The words were out of Carlene Davis-Dale’s mouth before she knew it: “I hope the next mouthful of pills or the next shot is your last,” she told her drug-addicted son.
Looking back, Davis-Dale said, she didn’t really mean it. Her cutting words were born of the grinding pain and frustration that a mother feels watching her only child repeatedly hurt himself and those around him because of the deadly grip of drug abuse.
